California Budtender Requirements

You must be at least 21 years old to legally work in a licensed cannabis dispensary in California. (See official source)
✔ Background Checks
California allows background checks, but under "Ban the Box" laws, employers can't ask about your criminal record upfront.

There is no state-issued license or budtender certification required to work in cannabis retail. (More info)
✔ OSHA Training
California law requires at least one staff member and one supervisor to complete Cal/OSHA General Industry 30-hour training at each dispensary. Some employers expect it from new hires.
